Route 66

While I was in Santa Fe I went on a road trip on a little bit of Route 66 in New Mexico and Arizona.  On the way we stopped at the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, Acoma "the city in the sky" pueblo, the Painted Desert,  the Petrified Forest and ended on the Turquoise Trail.  Below are some photo highlights of the trip.

The only tree on the mesa.

This cistern is one of which they would get their water.

Ladder to the Kiva.

We stayed in John Wayne's room.

Lobby of the El Rancho

Mural honouring the Navajo coders in the war.

See us leaning against the big arrows.

These stores have been there for over 40 years.

The Painted Desert

The Petrified Forest...those stumps are now stone.

That is a whole tree.

There are 600 petroglyphs in this part of the park.

It is all about the land in this part of the country.

On the Turquoise Trail

  1. Valerie! We are kindred spirits. I too took a trip on Route 66 several years back. From Chicago, Illinois to St. Louis, Missouri. Loved seeing your part of the Mother Road. Especially liked the FU KING Smoke Shop (giggle) and the hand carved Circus!! Thanks for sharing this amazing adventure.
