SUMMER UPDATE

This post is about local art, my art, boat launches, travel and parties.  So you can see it is a great start to summer.  I gave Arnt guitar lessons by his nephew Arnt as a gift.  They are sitting around our new fire bowl which Arnt gave me for my birthday.  Our deck is a wonderful place to while away the summer hours.

ART

Went to the first annual Parker Salon last month.  There was an art show on Friday night in the hall and the studios were open on Sat and Sunday.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

went to New York to see family, friends, art and architecture and work on a boat

LEIF'S FAMILY:  Thomas (father-in-law), Kathy (wife), Leif and Frances (mother-in-law) treat us as family.
We mostly went so Arnt could help his brother Leif on his boat.  It was still in the shed when we arrived and in the water when we left.  There was at least one all niter pulled to get this done.
It is a lovely old wooden boat...

POLARIS is the name

The inside has not been messed with so retains a lot of its soul.

I got to meet up with my dear friend Robert McQueen (of the play Abba fame + lots more) and he brought a surprise guest Roy Surette who is the Artistic and Executive Director at Centaur Theatre in Montreal.  He gave me my first job in theatre working on a play with Morris Panych and Ken MacDonald when I moved back from California and I credit them a lot with where I ended up today....so thanks guys!

Then for me it was all about the art....

Spring has Sprung!

Been a really nice spring (and let's face it when was winter...sorry everywhere else Canada) so have been on my bike a bit and getting out to see music, art, boats and did a week surf trip to Tofino and a visit to Gabriola.

I wanted to start this post with a couple photos from my neighbourhood...just love our hood and all the people who think outside the box or are just funny!

ART BY OTHERS: every few months we meet at my friend Sarah's house for sparkling beverages, snacks and art talk.  She also has an amazing collection of art as well. (sorry I do not have the names of the artists)  She is an incredible paper collage artist and painter.
You can see her art at www.sarahgeemiller.com

I love this piece as it goes with sculptures he had made that are all drawn in this painting

LOOKING BACK AND LOOKING FORWARD...

The end of 2014 and beginning of 2015 was full of friends, art, birds, boats, building and birthdays!

Our lovely friend Landon Mackenzie had a show at the VAG and when we went to the opening party we met her two new friends from Florence, CristiAna and Giovanni. We had them over for a Canadian dinner of planked salmon and scalloped potatoes.  She is a fashion designer and he is an architect.   We are trying to hatch a plan for all 6 of us to meet up in Florence before they move back here.  www.gioandcri4u.com

Went on a fabulous bird watching day at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta with Karli and Dick and his parents Bill and Helen.  Please note our outfits.  Karli in camouflage and me dressed for hunting.  It was my first bird watching outing!  I told the lady at the desk that I thought we were going after rabbits like Elmer!  www.reifelbirdsanctuary.com
